# Set up the Linux repository

> Set up Pitboard's repository for apt, dnf or zypper, choose its channel, or remove it.

`packages.usepitboard.com` gives apt, dnf and zypper the app and the command line, for x86\_64 and aarch64. The app needs Debian 13, Ubuntu 26.04, Fedora 43 and later, or openSUSE Tumbleweed, with GNOME or KDE Plasma.

Until 1.0.0, Pitboard's packages are in the beta channel alone, which these steps set up.

Its indices and RPM packages are signed with Pitboard's repository key, whose fingerprint is `22DCF748069770D807A1804F47C507760C9A97E3`. Go on only if your system shows the same.

## Set up apt

On Debian 13 and Ubuntu 26.04:

**1. Download the key and the setup files**

If your system has no `curl`, install it first with `sudo apt install curl`.

```sh theme={null}
sudo curl -fsSL -o /usr/share/keyrings/pitboard-archive-keyring.pgp https://packages.usepitboard.com/pitboard-archive-keyring.pgp
sudo curl -fsSL -o /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pitboard-beta.sources https://packages.usepitboard.com/pitboard-beta.sources
sudo curl -fsSL -o /etc/apt/preferences.d/pitboard.pref https://packages.usepitboard.com/pitboard.pref
```

**2. Check the key**

```sh theme={null}
gpg --show-keys /usr/share/keyrings/pitboard-archive-keyring.pgp
```

```text theme={null}
pub   rsa4096 2026-10-28 [C] [expires: 2036-10-25]
      22DCF748069770D807A1804F47C507760C9A97E3
uid                      Pitboard Packages
sub   rsa4096 2026-10-28 [S] [expires: 2028-10-27]
```

If the fingerprint under `pub` differs, delete the three files and stop.

**3. Install the app**

```sh theme={null}
sudo apt update
sudo apt install pitboard-app
```

apt also installs `pitboard`, the command line, and `pitboard-archive-keyring`, which brings each later copy of the key. For the command line alone, install `pitboard`.

## Set up dnf

On Fedora 43 and later:

```sh theme={null}
sudo dnf config-manager addrepo --from-repofile=https://packages.usepitboard.com/pitboard-beta.repo
sudo dnf install pitboard-app
```

dnf first says `repomd.xml GPG signature verification error: Signing key not found`, then asks to import the key:

```text theme={null}
Importing OpenPGP key 0x0C9A97E3:
 UserID     : "Pitboard Packages"
 Fingerprint: 22DCF748069770D807A1804F47C507760C9A97E3
 From       : https://packages.usepitboard.com/pitboard-archive-keyring.asc
Is this ok [y/N]:
```

Enter `y` if the fingerprint matches. dnf asks again before it installs the packages. It also installs `pitboard`, the command line. For the command line alone, install `pitboard`.

## Set up zypper

On openSUSE Tumbleweed:

```sh theme={null}
sudo zypper addrepo --refresh https://packages.usepitboard.com/pitboard-beta.repo
sudo zypper install pitboard-app
```

zypper shows the key it received and asks `Do you want to reject the key, trust temporarily, or trust always?`. Enter `a` if its `Key Fingerprint` is `22DC F748 0697 70D8 07A1 804F 47C5 0776 0C9A 97E3`. zypper also installs `pitboard`, the command line. For the command line alone, install `pitboard`.

## Add the Plasma widget

On KDE Plasma 6.4 or later, install `pitboard-plasma-widget` as you installed the app, such as `sudo apt install pitboard-plasma-widget`. It installs the app with it. Debian 13 has Plasma 6.3, so apt refuses it there.

## Choose a channel

| Channel | Holds | Setup files |
| - | - | - |
| `beta` | Each beta and each full release, whichever is higher | `pitboard-beta.sources` and `pitboard-beta.repo` |
| `stable` | The most recent full release | `pitboard.sources` and `pitboard.repo` |

Until 1.0.0, `stable` holds no release. apt refuses it with `does not have a Release file`, dnf says `Usable URL not found`, and zypper says `Repository type can't be determined`.

To move to the other channel, replace its setup file. The version installed stays until the other channel holds a higher one. With apt:

```sh theme={null}
sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pitboard-beta.sources
sudo curl -fsSL -o /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pitboard.sources https://packages.usepitboard.com/pitboard.sources
sudo apt update
```

With dnf:

```sh theme={null}
sudo rm /etc/yum.repos.d/pitboard-beta.repo
sudo dnf config-manager addrepo --from-repofile=https://packages.usepitboard.com/pitboard.repo
```

With zypper:

```sh theme={null}
sudo zypper removerepo pitboard-beta
sudo zypper addrepo --refresh https://packages.usepitboard.com/pitboard.repo
```

These move from `beta` to `stable`. To move back, swap `pitboard` and `pitboard-beta` in them.

On openSUSE, `zypper dup` installs the version the channel holds, even one lower than the version installed.

## Remove the repository

Remove Pitboard first, as [Remove Pitboard itself](https://docs.usepitboard.com/install/remove.md#remove-pitboard-itself) says. Then, with apt:

```sh theme={null}
sudo apt remove pitboard-archive-keyring
sudo rm -f /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pitboard.sources /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pitboard-beta.sources /etc/apt/preferences.d/pitboard.pref /usr/share/keyrings/pitboard-archive-keyring.pgp
```

With dnf:

```sh theme={null}
sudo rm -f /etc/yum.repos.d/pitboard.repo /etc/yum.repos.d/pitboard-beta.repo
sudo rpmkeys --delete 22DCF748069770D807A1804F47C507760C9A97E3
```

With zypper:

```sh theme={null}
sudo zypper removerepo pitboard-beta pitboard
sudo rpmkeys --delete 0c9a97e3
```

## Arch Linux and other systems

Pitboard has no package for other systems. Install the command line with [the install script](https://docs.usepitboard.com/install.md#install-with-the-script) or [Homebrew](https://docs.usepitboard.com/install.md#install-with-homebrew). The app builds with Meson, as [Build the app](https://docs.usepitboard.com/install/other-ways.md#build-the-app) says.
