A config folder per account
Anthropic’s Authentication page gives each account a Claude Code folder of its own, chosen withCLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR, such as through an alias claude-work. Each folder has “its own settings, session history, and claude.ai login or API key”.
Two folders run two accounts at once, in two terminals. Pitboard has one account in use per tool, and open Claude Code sessions follow a switch. With Pitboard, every account works with the same history and settings, and Pitboard reads each account’s usage.
The two work together. Pitboard switches the login of the folder that CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR names in its own environment, or of ~/.claude where it is unset. It leaves the logins of other folders alone.
Other account switchers
claude-swap 0.28.0 switches Claude Code. You add an account by signing in to it with Claude Code, then runningcswap add. It can also run an account in one terminal only, choose the account by folder and switch by itself by one of several strategies. cswap list and its macOS menu bar app show every account’s five-hour and weekly usage.
codex-auth 0.3.1 switches Codex. codex-auth login runs codex login, then keeps a copy of the login in Codex’s home. Codex takes a switch at its next start, as it does with Pitboard. codex-auth list shows each stored account’s usage.
Pitboard adds an account through the tool’s own sign-in in a private folder, so the account in use stays signed in. It switches Claude Code, Codex and, on macOS, Claude Desktop. It switches Claude Code by itself before a limit runs out, and warms up the accounts you choose.
Both other switchers export and import their logins. Pitboard does neither, since each machine signs in to each account itself, as What Pitboard will not do says.
Two switchers on one tool each write the login it reads, and each keeps copies the other cannot see. Keep one per tool: Move from another switcher says how.
CC Switch switches Claude Code, Codex and other tools between API providers, and holds several ChatGPT accounts for Codex. Its maintainer wrote in issue 1105 that several Claude subscriptions are not covered yet, and issue 1928, which asks for them, is open.
Usage monitors
Claude Code’s/usage shows the plan limits of the account a session is signed in to, as read in Claude Code 2.1.309. Codex’s /usage shows that account’s usage, as read in Codex 0.164.0.
CodexBar 0.80.0 shows the limits of many tools in the macOS menu bar. It switches Codex between accounts it keeps in a CODEX_HOME each. With its claude-swap source turned on, it shows and switches several Claude Code accounts through claude-swap.
ccusage 20.0.42 reports tokens and costs from the session logs on your machine, by day, by session or by Claude’s five-hour period.
Pitboard reads the limits of every enrolled Claude Code and Codex account from Anthropic and OpenAI, the account in use and the parked ones alike. How usage is read says how.
