Account windows
Opening an open window brings it to the front.
The title is the account’s label. When the other site has an account with the same label, the title adds the site: work (claude.ai). The subtitle is the page’s title, or the site’s name.
The window opens at the last page of its site it showed, other than a sign-in page. Otherwise it opens at
https://claude.ai/ or https://chatgpt.com/.
Until the app has read the accounts, the window shows Reading accounts. A failed read shows Couldn’t Read Accounts, the reason and Try Again. The window closes once a read no longer lists its account.
Zoom steps from 50% to 300%, as in Safari. It resets when the window closes. Actual Size also undoes a pinch. The find bar searches when you press Return.
The page’s shortcut menu has no Download Linked File, Download Image or Download Video: WebKit would cancel those downloads.
Notes
Notes show one at a time at the top of the window. Dismiss (an x) closes one.Pages and links
Email and app links act only when clicked or opened in a new window.
A frame inside the page, such as an artifact, loads any address but a file on your Mac.
A page’s alert, confirmation or question opens as a dialog titled with the asking host: claude.ai says. A frame’s is titled An embedded page at artifact.example says, or An embedded page says when it has no host.
A file upload opens the standard Open dialog.
A page that fails to load or keeps crashing shows Couldn’t Load the Page: see A window does not load its page.
Sign-in window
A page opens a sign-in window when it opens a sign-in page or a blank page in a new window. Only the site’s page or a sign-in page in the account’s window can, never a frame. It opens centred on the account’s window, at the size the page asks for. It defaults to 500 by 640 points and is never smaller than 320 by 400. It shares the account’s website data, so a sign-in there is the account’s. Its title is the page’s title, or the page’s host until it has one. Its subtitle is the host. Its page loads only the site, the site’s sign-in pages and a blank page. Anything else goes where the account’s window would send it, and notes show there. It has no toolbar and opens no window of its own. It closes when:- its page closes it, as a finished sign-in does
- you close it or the account’s window
- you choose Remove Website Data
- another sign-in window opens in its place
Downloads
Downloads go to your Downloads folder. If you denied Pitboard that folder, see Downloads are not saved. A download never replaces a file: a secondreport.pdf is saved as report 2.pdf, then report 3.pdf.
Downloads in the toolbar appears once the window has a download, and lists them newest first. An ended one shows Downloaded, Cancelled or why it failed.
Cancel (an x) stops a running download and deletes what it wrote. Show in Finder (a magnifying glass) shows a finished file. Clear takes the ended downloads off the list.
A failed download’s partial file is deleted. Downloads go on after the window closes.
Quitting Pitboard while a download runs asks A download is in progress. Quit anyway?, with the count when there are several. Quit stops every download and deletes what each wrote.
Remove Website Data
File > Remove Website Data acts on the account’s window in front. It asks Remove claude.ai data for “work”?, with Remove and Cancel. Remove clears everything the site keeps in that window. That signs the window out on this Mac only. The site is not told. The window starts again at the site’s home, at 100% zoom, with the sign-in note. Forgetting an account also deletes its window’s data: see Where account windows keep their data.Open Link window
The Open Link window asks which account opens a shared link. Nothing opens until you choose, even when the site has one account.
An account whose window is open shows [email protected], window open under its label.
It selects the account you last chose for the site since Pitboard started, else the account in use, else the first.
For 750 ms after the accounts appear, Open is dimmed and a double-click on an account does nothing. That stops a Return meant for another app.
A link brings the window to the front. A second link replaces the first, and the selection and the 750 ms wait start again.
If the account’s window is open, it loads the link, and Back returns to the page before. Otherwise the window opens on the link.
Add Account opens the Pitboard window’s Add Account dialog for the site’s tool.
Refused links
The Share extension and the Open Link window refuse these links. Only the Open Link window gives the last reason.
Pitboard opens an
http link, or one with no scheme such as claude.ai/new, as https. A link on chat.openai.com, www.chatgpt.com or chat.com opens as the same link on chatgpt.com. Each of those hosts redirects there with the path kept, measured on 29 September 2026.
Pitboard links
The Share extension hands a page to the app as a Pitboard link:pitboard://open?url= followed by the page’s link, percent-encoded.
open or a path other than /. Its query must be one non-empty url and nothing else.
Share extension
The app includes a Share extension, Pitboard in a browser’s Share menu. If it is missing, see Pitboard is missing from the Share menu. It is offered for one web page at a time. It checks the page against the refused links, then hands it to the app it came in as a Pitboard link.
For what the extension can reach, see Links shared from a browser.
