Use Pitboard with Codex says what Codex needs and how to restart it after a switch.

Codex keeps its login outside its file store

Codex’s setting cli_auth_credentials_store chooses where Codex keeps its login, and Pitboard refuses every store but file. The Codex login store line of pitboard doctor names the store and the place that chose it. If it says cannot tell, fix the place it names. If that place is a config.toml, yours or the system’s, set the file store in your own, in Codex’s home:
~/.codex/config.toml
On Windows, the file is .codex\config.toml in your user folder, as Codex files says. Then run codex login and sign in with ChatGPT. A store set in requirements.toml, managed_config.toml or a managed preference overrides yours, and only an administrator can change it. Codex files says where each other store keeps the login, and lists every place Codex reads the setting from.

Codex is signed out or uses an API key

If Codex is signed out, switch to an enrolled Codex account with pitboard use codex/work, or run codex login and sign in with ChatGPT. If it uses an API key, run codex login and sign in with ChatGPT.

Codex keeps the old account

Everything that runs Codex keeps its account until it starts again. Restart what runs Codex says how to restart each without losing a login. If the switch refused Codex’s login store, see Codex keeps its login outside its file store.
